Sorry, no pic’s of where we walked for this post, but there again, you don’t really want to look at streets of houses do you ?, But,  if you want to see general pic’s of the countyside around the Cawston area please use this link to my flickr photo’s.

20111101_Leaflet-Scouts Fireworks Display-Rugby-2011 by gary.haddenAs I’m a member of the 7th’s Scouting Leadership and my son is also a member of the Monday Cubs, we were asked to take on a small part of a huge leaflet drop around our part of Rugby. You’ve probably guessed what the leaflet was all about from the post title – Yep, advertising the annual BONFIRE & FIREWORKS EXTRAVAGANZA; It’s taking place at the 7th Scout Group HQ, on Alwyn Road Rec’, from 8pm on Friday 4th November 2011.

How’s this post made it into my walk’s diary, you may ask, well, it’s ‘cause I reckon it’ll count as another walk towards my son’s “number of walks” badge at some point and it’ll help me keep track of what he’s done with me this year … and … I’m due to have key-hole surgery on both knees next week (lots of hill-walking and sport over the years has knackered my cartilage, etc.) which will curtail my walking for a while, so this post will mark and end to my current set of walks – To be restarted again when I’ve recuperated enough from the surgeon’s knife or snippers or laser or what-ever he chooses to use next week.

Anyway, the kids were in Bilton, at their church for the morning, so rather than drive down to pick them up, I walked there (just under a mile maybe), met them after their services were over and then all three of us walked back into the Cawston Grange estate. Where-upon, instead of heading home we found the roads we’d been allocated for our leaflet drop. It’s surprising how long it takes walking back and forth to people’s front doors, posting the leaflet and making your way to the next house.

Still, with three of us doing it, we made good time and luckily the rain that had threatened off and on all morning didn’t materialize; instead blue sky started to break through and it was really quite pleasant for the end of October.

After a job well done, we all made our way home …. for some homemade roasted butternut squash and sweet potato soup for me, mmmm yummy!!! and that was that.; apart from later that same day, a leaflet (exactly the same as the dozens we’d just posted) dropped through our door. Somehow we never get to do our own street !

Oh and if you want to join our celebrations, please see below for details. You might even get to see me doing some marshalling/stewarding of the event – I’ll be the big ugly one with a yellow hi-vis jacket on.
